Dalam rangka melestarikan kebudayaan Cirebon, pada Kamis, 7 juni 2012 di halaman kantor Disbudparpora Kabupaten Cirebon, dilaksanakan pembukaan Binojakrama (festival lomba) pedalangan untuk dalang pemula dan madya.
Hadir pada kesempatan tersebut Kepala Dinas se-Kabupaten Cirebon, Persatuan Pedalangan Indonesia (Pepadi) Majalengka, Pepadi Kuningan dan Indramayu, Camat se-Kabupaten Cirebon, Lurah se-Kecamatan Sumber serta masyarakat sekitar komplek perkantoran Pemda Kabupaten Cirebon.
Kepala Bidang Kebudayaan Disbudparpora memaparkan, kegiatan ini akan dilaksanakan selama dua hari. Untuk malam pertama dengan peserta sebanyak lima dalang tingkat pemula dengan usia antara 17 – 40 tahun. Sedangkan untuk malam kedua diikuti oleh lima dalang madya dengan usia 40 tahun ke atas.
Kegiatan ini dimaksudkan agar anak cucu kita dapat mengenal kebudayaan nenek moyangnya serta menjaga kebudayaan tradisional supaya tidak punah.
Ketua Pepadi Provinsi Jawa Barat mengatakan, binojakrama pedalangan di Jawa Barat yang sering dilaksanakan adalah binojakrama pedalangan wayang golek, namun Kabupaten Cirebon yang pertama dan mengawali mengadakan binojakrama pedalangan wayang kulit.
Sementara Drs. Ade Setiadi, Msi, Kadisbudparpora Kabupaten Cirebon memaparkan bahwa pengenalan akan tradisi serta adat istiadat kepada generasi muda merupakan suatu keharusan, demi menjaga kelestarian kebudayaan tradisional sehingga anak cucu kita nanti bisa mengenal adat istiadat serta kebudayaan yang ada di daerahnya. Selain juga merupakan suatu perbendaharaan pariwisata bagi para turis domestik maupun lokal.
Kegiatan tersebut dilanjutkan dengan pagelaran wayang kulit dengan dalang pemula sebanyak lima dalang dengan durasi masing-masing satu jam pertunjukan.
